We were disappointed by our kayak tour on Shem creek. We initially were excited about taking a swamp tour with Nature Adventures, but were misadvised about how far the destination was by their representative (we're from California and this was our first visit to South Carolina) and would have been too late for the black water tour. So, instead, we were offered a tour of Shem Creek. We had hoped to experience an eco tour and see some wildlife, but there were almost no birds, no other wildlife, and definitely no wilderness at Shem creek. The "wildlife" we saw was all human. We kayaked amid bar noises, rock and roll music from restaurants, freeway noises, and other city noises. We did see some mildly interesting Charleston architecture because we kayaked near many houses, but this was definitely NOT what we had in mind. Our guide, while extremely affable and enthusiastic about Charleston, did not share any knowledge of local nature. If you enjoy urban kayaking, you may enjoy this trip, but we were disappointed.
